Biography:
Andy Bennett is an ecologist who takes an interdisciplinary approach. After an Honours degree in Zoology from the University of Adelaide, he was offered Commonwealth and 1851 scholarships to University of Oxford where he did a doctorate on the ecology of bird navigation. He then held research fellowships at University of Oxford, Free University of Brussels, and University of Adelaide, and moved to University of Bristol where he became Reader in Sensory and Behavioural Ecology. Five years ago, he moved back to Australia to become Head of the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at Deakin University, where he also established Deakin’s Centre for Integrative Ecology. He is now Professor of Life and Environmental Sciences and is based at the Geelong Waurn Ponds campus where he leads several research programs spanning from animal behaviour, visual ecology and the ecology of bird navigation in variable environments, to methods for improving animal and land management in response to human impacts.
