Building resilience to climate emergencies

The Assessing, managing and building resilience to climate emergencies Think Tank was held on 8-9 May 2012. The Think Tank was designed to highlight the problem of ‘silos’ between the climate change adaptation and emergency management communities and help bridge this gap.

The think tank aimed to identify strategies for policy and research to help local and state governments reduce the impacts of climate-related disasters on settlements and infrastructure. The event sought specifically to identify options for strategic decision-making to maximise flexibility for future adaptation. The event also sought to identify options to avoid path dependencies — where the consequences of past decisions can exert influence over the development of a process or state — which may lead to reduced capacity to respond to climate risks.
